File under: Things I did not expect in this month’s Cosmopolitan, but I am quite impressed by. Now if they could write a little more about it that would be great.
(Also if someone who was asexual could actually confirm this is an appropriate and nice response, because I’m assuming it is.)

reasons why asexuality & ace spectrum orientations need to be recognized and discussed in the mainstream media. i wonder how many people realized asexuality existed after reading this article? and looked into it and felt that relief of “i’m not alone!!! i’m not a freak!!!”

Color me impressed.
Yes, it is not only a nice response, but an honest, insightful and compassionate one.  The writer has put their finger on what I think is probably the primary damage most asexuals grow up with: In a world where everyone seems obsessed with sex, where there seems to be absolutely nowhere to turn and no one to look to if you’re not, the almost inescapable conclusion (typically reinforced by the people around you if you seek advice from friends) is that you must be broken.
(And let me tell you, going through life with every movie, book, TV show, news article and poster ad—not to mention friends and family—telling you basically, “But you should want to bang this hot person right here!” starts feeling pretty rapey after a while.)
Stumbling across a small article in a random magazine that says, “Have you considered that maybe you’re not broken?  There are other people like you.  Look, there’s even a name for it” is…holy shit.

Apparently on the 1st April my Tumblr turned 3 years old.

Happy Tumblr birthday to me I guess.

Ah yes the end of a vacation and the beginning of a study period. Isn’t that always the way? Anyway, I am refreshed and ready for the rest of the year so bring it on Uni.

Seems about right. Deciding that the “most powerful female characters in literature” should be 1) Jane Eyre a woman who runs away into the wilderness when she discovers the man she’s dating is a lying asshole and almost dies and 2) A supporting character, because God knows you couldn’t think up another women who was a main character to be put at second place. I’m not suggesting that Hermione is a bad character, or a bad role model but the fact that they chose a female in a supporting role (to a male main character no less) is very telling.

And yet the hardcore Freeman fans will defend his disgusting words because their ‘lovely baby Martin wouldn’t say something bad, ever’….

And I take this opportunity to bring back this wonderful quote:

"But, here’s the thing. It’s very likely that in some of these interactions with these guys, at some point or another someone told a rape joke. You, decent guy that you are, understood that they didn’t mean it, and it was just a joke. And so you laughed.

And, decent guy who would never condone rape, who would step in and stop rape if he saw it, who understands that rape is awful and wrong and bad, when you laughed?

That rapist who was in the group with you, that rapist thought that you were on his side. That rapist knew that you were a rapist like him. And he felt validated, and he felt he was among his comrades.” (Via http://dbzer0.com/blog/feminists-dont-think-all-men-are-rapists-rapists-do/)

He might not have actively set out in that interview to make a rape joke. He might not actually be the sort of person would would say that ‘rape is ok’. But regardless of all that, he still joked about something that is a very, very serious topic. And acting as though it is ok only adds to rape culture. Please don’t be the kind to dismiss such jokes. Don’t let people think that this is ok. Joking or not, this kind of thing has to stop.

This helped me a lot.

"We’ve had sex before" is the one I heard most from my ex, however most of these can be applied to my previous relationship. I am so glad that this is here.

important.

I’m really not sure how any of this is new to people. Just, you know, don’t be a scumbag? The fact that we even HAVE to educate individuals about things which should be common sense has severely (and this is entirely serious not a joke) damaged my faith in humanity
